Hardware alone is not enough. Digital signals must be turned into actionable insights that require software and edge AI. To bridge this gap we launched SensEI to integrate our sensors with software. TDK is moving towards physical AI—sensors, actuators, custom chips—all of these are systems working together.

Installing edgeRX™

TDK SensEI recently visited a TDK silicon wafer facility to implement edgeRX™. Our sensors were deployed to monitor the facility’s
24/7 vacuum pumps, enabling real-time machine‑health assessments through AI deployed on the edge.
This will allow facility managers to quickly identify early signs of equipment degradation and address potential issues before they escalate.

During the deployment, the team also learned that the robotic arms responsible for transferring wafers had a history of failures.
To support this critical part of the operation, edgeRX™ sensors were installed on these robotic systems as well—providing continuous monitoring to help prevent future breakdowns and ensure smoother, more reliable production.

Field application engineer Victor Lopez works in a cleanroom where final production steps are taking place. The image taken is yellow due to the light sensitivity requirements of production.

TDK SensEI team members Regis Santamaria, Tim Gicewicz, and Victor Lopez suit up in preparation to enter the silicon wafer production facility.
